Victorian Valentine Workshop for Kids

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — Join in the fun as Pennypacker Mills offers a Victorian Valentine Workshop for Kids on Saturday, February 9, 2013 from 10:00am to 12:00pm. The Victorian Era was one of lavish parties, decorations, and creative crafting for adults and children alike. The Classroom Building will be the setting for an enjoyable morning of crafting with all the materials and instructions that are needed to make vintage inspired Valentine cards and decorations. Bring along friends, scout troops, or siblings to this one-of-a-kind workshop designed especially for kids. There will be a refreshment break mid-way through the program. This workshop is perfect for kids 5 years of age and older, accompanied by an adult. The cost is $5.00 per child. Pre-registration and pre-payment are required. Pennypacker Mills Historic Site is operated by the Montgomery County Department of Assets and Infrastructure, Division of Parks and Heritage Services. What You Don’t Know About Financial Aid

POTTSTOWN, PA — Montgomery County Community College’s West Campus Speaker Series will present a talk on “Things You Don’t Know About Financial Aid” in the South Hall Community Room, 101 College Drive, Pottstown. Holly Parker from MCCC’s Financial Aid Office will provide a basic overview of financial aid, including:

the impact of being a No Show in a class or withdrawing from a class;
types of loan debt that students accrue;
how students can get credit to pay for books;
how students can borrow books until their financial aid comes through;
types of financial aid;
how to apply for scholarships

The presentation is free and is open to the public and will include time for Q & A.

Free Community Telescope Observatory Night

Montgomery County Community College will host the first of three spring semester Community Observatory Nights on Wednesday, Feb. 20, from 7-9 p.m.in its state-of-the-art Observatory and on the Observation Deck, weather permitting. The Observatory is located on the third floor of the College’s Advanced Technology Center, Central Campus, 340 DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell. Please call the observatory hotline, 215-641-6460, an hour before the scheduled event for information about cancellation.

Community nights are free of charge and are open to the public, and astronomy clubs are welcome. Students from the College’s Introduction to Astronomy course volunteer during the event to share their knowledge and assist visitors with using the telescope and viewing equipment.

The Observatory and Observation Deck are features of the College’s 60,000 square-foot Advanced Technology Center. The Observatory features a 16-inch MEADE Schmidt-Cassegrain research-level telescope and a 90-mm Coronado telescope for safe observation of the sun. All of the instruments are controllable both in the classroom as well as in the Observatory itself. Through a fiber network, images can be downloaded for further study and comparison and can be used in online courses.

Ambler Environmental Action Committee

The Ambler Environmental Action Committee is an Environmental Advisory Council made up of a group of community residents, seven of whom are appointed by Borough Council. The members devote time and energy to assist elected and appointed officials in protecting the environment. Monthly Ambler EAC Meetings are held on the second Wednesday at 7:00PM ( public welcome!)
