How Did I Get Here

Lately I’ve been thinking about this a lot, I’ve started thinking a lot about Chaos Theory lately, thinking I’ll find answers there, I think I’ve been affected by the butterfly effect. My life, a knuckle ball, no way of determining where its gonna go. Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about the late 60s, 1968, October, I turned 16, earlier that Summer, I was out of the house, hanging out, hitch hiking around the Country, going coast to coast. I don’t know, I think about it, I’ll take those days, any day, over days of sitting around, playing games on computers. A few things fell into place in the years of my youth, hard to believe it all began over a game of Risk. Three men stranded by a blizzard, in some mountain cabin, high in the Sierras of Nevada. Read about June 29 1965, I don’t think your gonna find any of this in a high school history text, read a little about the Red Dog Saloon. So I thought the butterfly would have effect here, however, its the post after Butterflies, Frogs(I forgot), that I talk some about one of these three men. Mark Unobsky, one could argue, this man had a hand in changing the history of the world. And Man, He Could Play Guitar, I only realized the other day he had passed on, I think 1996. I met him, hung out a little with him in 1978, never, not even up unto this day, have I ever heard a guitar played, the way he played his, he is not unknown, I think you’ll find his work on the web, Rocking At The Red Dog, the Works documentary, is of those early days in Virginia City, myself, I’ve yet to see it, I want to, I will make a point of it. These were some of the guys, who built the bridge between the Beat and the Hippie Generation. There’s a lot out there written about this man, about those times, I wish there was more! After that Summer of 65 passed, things moved down into San Francisco, the Dance Halls opened, the DJ who left Philly, Tom Donahue was hosting events, psychedelic light shows, the acid tests began, I guess it was in December 1965, the Grateful Dead first played together. Ten Years After was my first concert. Jeff Becks Band opened the show at the Old Electric Factory on Arch, it was on for me, day glow jungle gyms, coffins lined the walls, padded boxes, set at angles, one could just crawl in, relax, enjoy the show. There were two old barber chairs there, they’re be two hippie chicks there, painting flowers on faces too. Just two weeks before, I had turned 16, I’d spent my Summer, triping around the Country, for a kid, by this time, I was out of control! Feb 11, 1969 was the last show I saw at that venue, Frank Zappa, right after, I split for DC, hung out with my cousin Gus at Georgetown, when it was raining, waiting out the spring, waiting for the rain to stop in California. Just as soon as it did, I took off again, hung out my thumb, headed for the coast, and I never looked back…, until now!
